HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, it is a hormone that is naturally produced by the placenta in pregnant women. When HCG is injected into an individual, combined with a low calorie diet, the HCG allows the body’s fat to be burned and used as fuel, the HCG hormone aids in appetite suppression. The injection is given with a tiny insulin syringe into the abdominal fat.

The HCG diet was designed by Dr. Albert T.W. Simeons, a British endocrinologist, over 50 years ago. The premise of the HCG diet is that obesity is a condition originating in the diencephalon (a part of the brain that regulates body processes and metabolism) in its ability to regulate fat. Dr. Simeons showed that low calorie diets (void of fats, carbohydrates, sugars) could allow for rapid weight loss particularly targeting abnormal fatty deposits (spare tire, belly fat, hips and thighs) while sparing healthy/normal fat deposits (i.e. face).

The HCG diet will direct the body to consume fats as its primary energy source turning the body into a fat burning machine. The fat loss comes from undesirable places such as abnormal fatty deposits (i.e. belly fat). We are all bombarded with new diets all the time that all promise the same thing. A quick fix to weight loss.

The truth is there is no quick fix. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is through lifestyle and diet changes. This diet teaches people a lot about food as well as portion sizes and what they can and cannot eat if they want to lose weight and keep it off. This is a life changing diet and is intended for obese individuals who are at a high risk for serious health conditions because of their weight (i.e. heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc). I believe the HCG diet is a much better option than OTC or doctor prescribed weight loss pills or surgical intervention (bariatric surgery, liposuction, etc). I have been practicing medicine for over 10 years and have seen countless people suffer unnecessarily from serious health related disease due to obesity.


Yes. It is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for male and female infertility. It is widely accepted by the medical community and has been used for decades without insult for infertility. It is not FDA approved for weight lost. The FDA states that such products aren’t necessarily dangerous; their sale is deceptive since there’s no good evidence that it’s effective for weight loss. I completely disagree. There are a number of supplements on the market that are somewhat effective and safe for weight loss such as Garcinia Cambogia. There is research that suggests that it suppresses appetite and somewhat effective for weight loss. However, they aren’t approved by FDA. The fact is HCG has been used for well over 50 years for weight loss with incredible results. I would not recommend for people to take sublingual drops or supplements containing HCG as it is far less effective. With sublingual drops you still lose weight but much less approximately half as much. Most HCG supplements don’t contain much hCG. Therefore, not really effective for weight loss. I give high grade HCG to all of my patients which yields excellent results.


HCG is a super hormone that is known as being the catalyst hormone that stimulates the production of other hormones throughout the body. These hormones in turn, effect the body’s metabolism, muscle tissues, digestion, liver and kidney function etc. It’s no secret that hormone function and balance is known to be one of the most common causes of obesity. HCG’s role in the diet plan, is to help the body balance out these issues which allows the body to function optimally. Dr. Simeons theorized that by giving daily injections of small amounts of HCG along with a controlled low calorie diet, that the HCG would mobilize (move) the fat into the blood stream where protein and various enzymes could exercise their lipolytic functions (lipolytic means to break down fats usually for the consumption of energy:
Dr. Simeons’ clinic had a 97% success ratio.

A number of medical authorities have since supported the theories advanced by Dr. Simeons. IN “Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise” (19:5, sec 179-190, 1986), Dr. Layman, MD Affirmed that the intake of high dietary protein (1) aided in the metabolism of free floating fat, (2) enhanced increased muscle mass, (3) preserved protein composition in organs, (4) stabilized blood glucose levels, and (5) enhanced the production of human growth hormone from the pituitary gland. Accord in J AM Coll Nutr 2004 Dec. 23 (6:Suppl) 631S-636S.

The idea of the HCG diet is to reset a person’s metabolism and restore proper fat balance throughout the body. The diet will also help educate an individual to eat properly in order to lose the weight and to keep it off. This is not a “fad” diet or a “yo yo” diet. This is simply a jump start to a healthier happier “new” you. It is truly a life changing diet. I would expect the majority of people reading this already know somebody who successfully completed the diet and achieved incredible results. The first two days the person must “gorge” on fatty foods in order to restore fat reserves as it takes 48 hours for the HCG to take affect. After this gorging period, the individual must adhere to a 500 calorie per day diet. Sounds really hard, I know IT’S NOT. The HCG will allow you to release between approximately 1000-4000 fat calories per day. This is where the dramatic weight loss comes from. The abnormal fat stores that are released helps get rid of trouble fat deposits (i.e. spare tire, belly fat, etc). The individual must drink 64 oz of water per day to flush out the fat that is being released from their system. The HCG injection also helps by decreasing the patient’s appetite. This diet is followed for either 26 or 43 days. Followed by a 6 week maintenance period where the person goes back to a “regular” calorie diet. After this 6 week period an individual could, if necessary, complete several rounds to achieve weight loss goals.


This is achieved during the maintenance phase of the diet. This phase lasts 6 weeks. The first maintenance phase you slowly start to introduce back foods into your diet and increase caloric intake back to “normal” i.e. 2,000/ calories per day. In the second maintenance phase you will slowly start to introduce back carbohydrates and sugars. This phase is to allow for a smooth transition to a higher calorie diet and this allows a person to sustain long term weight loss goals. Remember the goal isn’t to lose the weight; the goal is to keep it off. This phase allows the diencephalon to adjust to your new weight and body frame. Simply put your body will basically reset itself at its new weight. You will need to continue to exercise as you were already doing on the diet, eat in moderation, and make sensible food choices in order to keep the weight off. I would recommend that everybody continue to weight yourself regularly (i.e. 1x/day or 1x/week).
